His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales visits Langstane tenant in her new home

On Thursday, 27 March 2025, Prince William visited Aberdeen to see first-hand the difference the Royal Foundation Homewards Project, which he leads, will make to people experiencing homelessness.

Langstane’s furniture project administrator, Rhona Ramsay, had the pleasure of joining a very happy Langstane tenant as they welcomed His Royal Highness and Homewards Advocate, TV personality Gail Porter, to the first flat to be fully furnished by the Homewards partnership.  Rhona said “working with Homewards has been incredible – it makes a huge difference having Prince William at the head of such a project, as he brings so many fantastic people and organisations round the table to help.  He’s a very down-to-earth, lovely man, who’s clearly passionate about his ambition to make homelessness rare, brief and unrepeated.”

Langstane’s chief executive, Helen Gauld, highlighted how well the Homewards project ties in with their own furniture project, and how well the experience gained from each project benefits the other.

The Homewards project will jointly deliver 25 fully furnished homes for Langstane tenants over the next 18 months in Aberdeen City.  The furnishings will be donated by providers such as Bosch, DFS Group, Dunelm, Glencraft, IKEA, Somebody Cares, The Furnishing Service and The Multibank, as well as Langstane itself.  These companies were convened, locally and nationally, by The Royal Foundation’s Innovative Housing Project, with the purpose of creating comfortable homes from empty, blank properties, provided by Langstane Housing Association.

Langstane is very proud to be working alongside the Homewards project and its partners, to help people experiencing homelessness make their flat into a home.  It was fantastic to see the impact of Thursday's visit and to share our commitments to #Homewards.

What is the Homewards Project?

Homewards is a five-year programme developed by Prince William and The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales in 2023, which brings together a network of people and organisations with the aim of ending homelessness throughout the UK.  The project has chosen six flagship locations - Aberdeen; Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole; Lambeth; Newport; Northern Ireland; Sheffield -  alongside organisations from a range of sectors who are contributing skills, resources and investment to support the locations to deliver solutions.

We at Langstane are delighted that Aberdeen is the first of the cities to deliver a fully furnished home!
